Unhappy Photoshop CS4 changes colors

Using Picasa to manage my pics, I recently opened a file in PS CS4 and made some changes to a white display board I took a picture of. I also did some lightening in other areas, etc. I saved as a JPG with maximum quality; the original was also JPG. When I saved as a new name, I could compare the two in Picasa and noticed the new photo was actually 'darker' than the original. I can only surmise my color scheme or something is amiss in Photoshop.

What setting do I need to change if any, or what am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Examples would help greatly. It's hard to tell what could be the problem without seeing it.

Examples? Here are the files. One is simple darker than the other, you can tell the one that's been edited has a few items retouched/removed. That's the darker one which should have been the same color/brightness.

Default Color in CS4

If your original image was shot RAW, you probably need to do a profile conversion in PS to make the image color the same for the web.

When you are finished editing your image and have converted from 16 bit to 8 bit,
click "edit,"
then click "convert to profile,"
for "Profile" select "Generic RGB Profile,"
for "Engine" select "Adobe ACE,"
for "Intent" select "Perceptual."

Hopefully that will make your image color correct for the web.

Great info. Thank you. However, I shot that in JPG. I wonder if my PS needs to be calibrated with what my camera shoots....or is that even possible?

I use a Canon 40D

It would be your monitor that would need to be calibrated to reflect true colors.

Are you using the same color space in your camera and Photoshop?
