Default Can you recommend a photo printer?

I think the time has come to think about one. And I have no clue where to begin. Any input would be welcome.

I bought a Canon MP620, which is not even a 5-color printer (it has 5 inks: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Photo Black, Text Black) and I have been nothing short of amazed at the quality I've gotten out of it! I would think if you upgraded to one of their 5-6 color systems that it would just be astounding quality! I needed the Text Black ink which kept me from buying one of the dedicated photo printers. I will say the quality and results of any printer are VERY dependent on having the correct color profiles for the printer+ink+paper combo you are using. I use Red River Paper, particularly their 68lb. UltraPro Satin Luster Photographic Inkjet Paper, they offer ICC profiles for all their products here, I love the results I get, and so do my customers! I only use it for professional stuff when absolutely necessary, but I have had no negative reactions to the results so far.

Keep an eye on Craigslist. I picked up an unboxed Canon Pro9000 Mark II for $250 from someone who got it bundled with a T1i. They cut the barcode off the box for a rebate but that was about it. I've seen a lot of ads for the same printer because of the same thing. This printer has a normal street price of $499. Good luck.
