Copy that, I figured as much, now another question (and I feel silly asking because of my ignorance) specifically how do I meter for the bakground lighitng, where is the meter lock button on a cannon d40, and then recompose for the subject and get them properley exposed as well?

turn your camera to spot metering or center weighted metering and hold down the ae/af lock button while the focusing point is on the background then recompose and push the shutter release. At least that is how you do it with a nikon. I am not too sure with canon but it should be similar.

Sadi-

There is one way to find out how I shoot...join one of my workshops! I lead one-on-one and small group workshops where you can learn how I approach each shoot, techniques, and most importantly, how to use YOUR camera. The best part is that it is very affordable, especially for the amount of information you get out of it. Oh, and I'll even teach you how to get that "high key" look IN the camera by understanding natural light and proper exposure, without using Photoshop (I know, crazy, huh?).

Thanks for the nice comments, this is a great community where tons can be learned about our trade. Shoot me an email if you'd like to learn a little more about my workshops.
