Default Opening a previously edited photo in Photoshop

I edited and saved a picture in Photoshop and I want to change a couple things. How do I open it and make changes without starting completely over? Thanks!

it depends on how you've saved them, mandy.....

if you've saved them as a psd......with all edits on their separate layers.....then no problem.....just open them up and click on the layer of edits you wish to change.....

if you've saved them as a jpeg .....or any other form of a flattened image, then you'll just be applying more edits on top of what you already have......

i try to make it a habit that all edits are done separately, so that i can come back and re-evaluate at will......

hope that helped.....

Oh yes, thank you. Unfortunately I have been saving a jpeg so I am out of luck on the one I wanted to edit. I will save as psd from now on!

You may also want to save your original, unprocessed image. When you open up your image, do a save as, then save as a .tif (saves layers you will do to it and other editing software can read the file) or the .psd (propritary for photoshop, so only photoshop products can read it.).

When you are done with your editing, save your final product (the .tif or .psd file), then do a save as to save as a .jpg of your choice of resolution.

Another tip: If you pick "save for the web", photoshop will strip the EXIF data from the image...solve that by picking "save as jpg" and simply lower the resolution (be sure to change the name of the file so you will know it is the web file...I always add web to the filename.)

save for web doesnt strip EXIf data, as I use it to prepare my RAW's for Flickr . . resize etc. Exif data shows up fine in Flickr

correction - it does. Flickr only shows EXIF for some of my images . .
