Default How to match the WB of two photos

Hello,

I have shoot 2 photos of the same object in the same place, well front and back, but something went wrong and the color balance of the 2 shots is different.

Is there a way to match the WB of the two shots, I mean using the color balance from the one that is right?

Thanks
Laszlo

Are the photos Raw and JPEG. If they are in JPEG you are pretty much stuck with the WB that you get. If they are in RAW you can adjust the white balance of the two to match.

There are loads of methods for colour correcting JPEG images. Unfortunately I haven't got a clue how to do it as I'm a RAW man and am a big fan of the WB slider!

Try googling "Colour Correction" and I'm sure you will get a lot of You Tube videos showing you how to acomplish it with curves.

GIMP has a "Auto" White balance application. If you don't like the results, you can hit the edit button and click on "Fade". This will allow you to custom set the WB over quite a large range. I have PS Elements-5, but have found that GIMP is more versatile with editing my jpegs. My Raw shots are edited in Canon Raw and then converted to jpeg. Any additional tweaking is done in GIMP. It takes awhile to master GIMP, but it's free and there are lots of online tutorials on their homepage.

I haven't tried matching two photos, but the way I know how to correct colour balance in photoshop is to:
  1. Hover your mouse over a pure grey area on your image
  2. Use the info pallette and note down the red green and blue values of the grey area
  3. average out the greys (r+g+b/3)
  4. Open a curves adjustment layer and select the red channel
  5. click anywhere on the curve line and then enter the original red value into the input box (bottom left from memory)
  6. Enter averaged value in the output box
  7. Repeat last two steps for the green and blue channels
  8. Click ok and you're done

Basically all you're doing is telling photoshop what pure grey should be.

Good luck.

Mind posting the shots so we can see how much "you're stuck with the WB" of the jpgs?
