Default Raw CR2 files into Photoshop CS3 - Possible?

Shooting RAW on a Canon 5DMkII, downloading to Mac OS10 via EOS Utility won't open CR2 files in PhotoshopCS3. Looked for plug-ins to download but no joy. Think I read I need CS4 to do this. At moment I am using iPhoto to download (no prob) or using 'convert and export' button in Utility (time consuming). Any suggestions?

Not sure of Mac OS', but i think you need to have Adobe Camera Raw installed.

Try to update you software. Cos', i have CS3 in my Laptop (Sony Vaio) and i DO open CR2 files. It does go thru Camera Raw at first (for adjustment, procession, and conversion) and when done, then it get transferred into CS3 itself.

I found (Google) this very interesting installation instructions of the Camera Raw for CS3. Check HERE.

Hope that helps.

I agree but be sure and upgrade to the correct version. The current version, ACR 5.4 will not work with CS3. I'll find the link to the correct version and edit this post with it.

Here's the link for the latest version for CS3 (Mac):

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...jsp?ftpID=4037

But you may be hosed on the 5DMkII. The Canon 50D was the most recent I saw supported by the latest upgrade for CS3. I didn't see the 5DMkII on the support list for ACR 4.6 (which is the latest I could find for CS3). The versions 5.3 and 5.4 DO NOT work with CS3, they are strictly CS4 compatible.

Yep!!! Sorry mate. Unless you upgrade to CS4, your camera is not supported by the CS3 version of the Camera Raw.

Another alternative is too switch to Adobe Lightroom which integrates and manage the RAW file very well and work also in partnership with Photoshop. They complete themselves. From Lightroom you can send a file to Photoshop.

Or, you can still work on your RAW files with your EOS Softwares and save it as Tiff format for Photoshop.

PS: Thanks, RustySterling for reminding us of the incompatibility.

Drax's suggestion is a good one. LightRoom would give you all the RAW capabilities you'd need and compatibility with your current camera. Then do the really difficult stuff in PS CS3. You'd be good to go.

Smile Thanks guys

Awesome! Thankyou so much for taking the time to reply. Looks like I'll have to get CS4 or Lightroom (have heard it's the way to go).
