Default fixing over exposure/des-saturation?

today i went to my grams, leaving my camera at home. of course, the day that i dont have my camera, we see deer, racoons, bunnies, butterflys...it was a zoo! but anyways, i had to try to use my papas point and shoot (which took some getting used to). i really missed my camera! so here is what i ended up with, they are a bit over exposed and de-saturated. ive already sharpened them, but i have tried saturating them, but it's too much for the flowers (gives them a glowing blue hue). does anyone have any tips on making these pictures better? thanks..ps- im not that great in pp, so, you really got to spell it out for me!

Curves adjustments can do wonders, and you can adjust colors by doing curves on the RGB channels individually.

Assuming you're using an RGB color space, you can edit the color values for the red, green, and blue channels separately in curves adjustments. In this case, you can increase the contrast in the red and green channels, but not so much in the blue channel to avoid the blue glow. The tutorial I Iinked to takes you through all the concepts and ways of adjusting Curves, step-by-step.

here is what ive done so far, i used curves to fix the color & contrast. i like the color of the butterfly but the flowers still have a bluish glow to them around the edges. i cant figure out how to change the color of the flowers without changing the butterfly too.
oh, and i did read the attachment...its gonna take a few more times of reading it lol

I'm assuming you're using Photoshop so.....

To only affect the flowers create a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. The window pops up. Select "Magenta" from the drop down menu. Then you can eye-drop the blue/magenta color of the flowers (click the image in right place while the window is open). After that play with the sliders as you wish.

I played around a bit with the first image. Hope you don't mind.

thank you all for your efforts! im gonna have to play around with some of your suggestions. i think that vsa- your came out most like what i was looking for! i didnt want the flowers too light but not over done because i wanted the butterfly to really stand out the most, i think that youve accomplished that (jbm1991-a very close second!)! now hopefully i can try to recreate it myself
thanks again to everyone for all the great ideas
