Question Problem with getting my fonts to work with CS4, please help?

Hello all,

I'm new here so I applogize if this isn't the right area to post this question (I looked and this just seemed the safest and best place to ask).

I often download fonts for school projects and such, but every time I download a font and extract it to my font folder on my laptop CS4 does not see it at all. If I download it on my desk top, which has CS3, I don't have a problem. The only diffence is my laptop is Vistas with CS4 and my desktop is windows XP with CS3. I downloaded some actions to see if I would have the same problem but so far it's fine.

I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to fix my font problem! Thank you!

Cassandra

EDIT: I apologize for the misunderstanding; my vistas system does not see the font files that I extract into my systems font folder. I thought it was just my CS4 that was unable to see the fonts but then I noticed that none of my fonts that I downloaded and extracted are showing up in my font folder.

Are you attempting to use the fonts that were downloaded after CS4 was started? I would think if they are placed where they should be when downloaded and then CS4 is started, it would load them too.

No, I close my photoshop before I download any fonts. I can't download it directly to my font folder because it is a ZIP file. I usually download it into my "download" folder and then extract it to my font folder. I do the same thing on my desk top.

The last one I just tried didn't show up in my font file after extracting it (but it worked on the desktop) so I'm starting to think it might be related to the Vista's system, maybe?

Thanks for the input though.

I'm not a Vista user so I can't really comment on that aspect. I hope you are able to get it working though.

have you unzipped the file and then loaded them into your fonts library in CS4?

NOt sure about that...I'm on a make and just downloaded over 200 fonts in the past couple days for my library. I dont install them in photoshop but in the system library.
Might be something with CS4 i doubt its due to vista.
I'll research a bit.

Are you just placing them in the Windows>fonts folder?

Is there a fonts folder in CS4? I've never seen it, I unzip them into my systems fonts folder.

No, I'm extracting them from my downloads folder into my systems fonts folder. The last few fonts I tried downloading haven't been showing up in my systems font library; which made me think it might be a vista's problem rather than a CS4 problem. I do the same procedure on my desktop that has XP and everything works fine. I don't think my dads Mac has had any problems with fonts either.

Thank you both for your input! I really appreciate it!

You dont install fonts with CS4. On your windows machine it should be C:/Windows/Fonts. It'll be full of .ftn and .ota files (believe). You move the appropriate files from the zip to that folder.

XP and VIsta both work the same in that respect.
