Really like Picasa 3 also, the collages are nice and I use the "Web Albums" to make slideshows for my website.
I use FastStone Image Viewer also for rotating a bunch at once and when you double click them, you edit full screen and can scroll right thru the folder with your mouse. Really like that.
Also use Paint.net though for selective color, sepia, and borders around my photos.
Photoscape makes cool small collages also.

Pay for my advice is Serif Photoplus X3 if you are just starting out .. many miss this or dismiss it yet ALL my PP is done with it and it does everything Photoshop does all for £60 you can get free trial versions of older ones I know I am selling my X2 soon which is almost as good but X3 does HDR and RAW ... I know the induyustry standard is photoshop but unless you are a pro it seems ridiculous to use/ spend so much on something you will use maybe 25% of it's functions... Serif I use nearer100% now as it so easy to use with great tutorials built in.

Free ... GIMP will send links if you want for both but GIMP is very good for a freebie simply as it has been updated and never lost its GNU roots

PhotoFiltre is an excellent freebie if you're just wanting to tweak photos for personal use, or for distribution amongst your friends and family. You can upgrade to the full studio version for about $40 bucks, which has a lot more functionality than the free version. Give the freebie a test run, if you don't like it, delete it and move on.

I've never used Adobe Photoshop, but I've seen it in use. PhotoFiltre seems like a simpler platform, though being simpler usually means you won't be able to do half as much with it, but again, I haven't used PS, so I can't say for certain.

GIMP. For all the reasons mentioned above and a couple more.

For people that got used to PS and are troubled with dealing with a bit different interface, there is GIMPshop.... GIMP with PS' interface, though I find it better to invest a bit of time and learn the original interface than to wait for the new versions (GIMPshop is a bit slower development-wise).

Also, a great thing about GIMP is it's portable version. Just put the files on your memory stick and use it on any computer anywhere without need to install anything.

And does much more. Not bad for a free program. IMO.

PS: It's also possible to install The Gimp and Picasa 3 on one machine. It cost nothing and doesn't harm to have both. They are free! LOL!
Yes it is. I use the Gimp as an editor and use picasa to post the pictures. Be aware that picasa and gimp don't handle 16 bit pictures, though unless you are a serious pro this isn't a problem. (actually if you were a serious pro you probably would be using photoshop) but plenty of pros also use gimp!

All the best.

Thumbs up

Amazifier is a nice and simple photo editor.
You can’t do professional stuff like Adobe’s PhotoShop with it but its good for 99% of the photo editing I do...
It has some nice photo effects, photo frames, stickers, etc..
The best I like is the magic brushes where you can brush nice stuff on to your photo like snow flakes…
You can get it from their website at Amazifier - Fun and Easy Photo Enhancing for FREE!.
