I think the subject of your image lends itself well to b&w or sepia. For me, it kind of gives a different mood with each. I'm leaning toward the sepia version. Either way, the tree has an interesting form to it, and the foreground adds to it. As for the technique of the mix of b&w and sepia, I'm not familiar with it, sorry. But it sounds interesting and hope someone could help. I would like to learn about it also.

I've never tried it, but couldn't you use the sepia pic and make a layers mask and set it to greyscale. Click on the layer mask and make adjustments to the black and white. Then click back on the sepia image . Then use the opacity slider, and as you slide it down, the greyscale pic will start to show through. Is that what your after?

Do you mean Quadtone:

In Photoshop:

Ctrl+J
Image> Mode> Duotone
Choose type: Quadtone
Load> quadtones> pantones
Select last option Bl 541 513 5773. Hit LOAD. Hit OK.
Image> Mode> RGB Color
Flatten/save
