Default How would you PP this picture?

I took this in Auto mode because I needed to get it done quickly, so the flash fired, and now there's those shadows on the back wall. Could anyone suggest something to me to get those shadows out of there? Feel free to play with it and repost it if need be. Thanks!

Crop the image tight to the group, that way anything in the upper part of the image will be removed.

Almost any editing software, and you most probably have some on a cd with your camera, will have a crop tool or rectangular selection tool. Simply crop the image to get rid of all the space.....

Great, thanks, guys! I cropped it before sending it out to the participants, but is there any way at all to get those shadows out of there? I'd just like to know for future reference for a picture that may not be able to be cropped.

There are several ways to do this. It all depends on the gear that you have. If you have a single off camera flash put it to the side so that the shadows that are cast will fall out of the frame. If you have two or more off camera flashes you can use one to light the background and one for the people. The background light will illuminate all the shadows to make them less harsh or can remove them completely depending on your ratios. If you have a single hotshoe flash that can swivel then you can just bounce the flash off the ceiling or a wall. If you have none of the above then move the group outside or away from any background that will show the shadows.

Cropping was definitely the best option for this image, removing wasted space as well as the shadows. If you did need to be more subtle, you could use a cloning tool to paint them out. The main difficulty comes if there are subtle changes of colour - you might find that one end is a lot lighter than the other and thus get some visible artifacts. You can work round this but you reach the point where you are digitally painting the whole backdrop so, as a rule, this kind of thing is always best to avoid in the first place.
