Default History Bursh tool

Hi,

I have changed a color photo to Black and White and trying to use the History bursh tool to bring back some colors in the photo.
But the problem that I am having is that the color is getting copied to the brush.

For exmaple if I bring back the lipstick on the lips and then try to do the same thing on the eyes, the red color from the lipstick is repeating on the eyes.

How do I avoid that color?

Please help me.

Thanks,
Kandadi

What software are you using. I have just tried Photoshop CS4 and have no problems on several images I tried, I also know it works with other versions.

Why didnt you copy the base layer, make it black/white and then remove the bits of the picture you want in colour from that layer, exposing the coloured base layer underneath?

If you are using photoshop then just make a black and white adjustment layer and mask out the parts of the image that you want in color. This way you do not have to copy the original layer making your file larger than it needs to be.
