Default Color Pop

Has anyone seen or used this before?
http://shop.nicholev.com/prodpage.aspx?type=a-colorpop

I'm wondering if anyone can explain what is going on there...
1) I don't have any money to spend
2) I'd rather learn how to accomplish that type of effect on my own

Thanks

do you have any photo processing programs? (ie. photoshop, lightroom, etc)
if you have adobe lightroom , i have a preset that is meant to do just this. i haven't liked the effects it's made on any of my indoor portraits but i could see how in the right shot it could be effective.

reminds of one of things you can do with Topaz Adjust, but with that one you can do more than just the one effect

You can also get great colour pop in LAB mode and adjusting the a/b channels in curves. Ensure both the left and right side of the a/b curves adjusted equally.

As a rule of thumb, yes, but certainly not always. Try reading

Photoshop LAB color by Dan Margulis

In some cases equal curves can ruin skin tones and greens in nature. Margulis made a great book about LAB curves and the lightness channel.

Yes, indeed, you are quite correct. I am a great fan of working in LAB for many scenarios and feel it is often overlooked by many. And this is indeed one of the great, unsung photoshop books. Highly recommended.

I use Aperture and sometimes (rarely since it's intimidating) Photoshop. I currently have the demo version of LR2 just to see if it had anything that Aperture doesn't. I don't think I'll be using it after the 30 days.

I followed the tutorial on DPS about Lab colors and I really like it on some photos, but not so much on others so maybe that's what you other peeps are referring to. I'll have to keep playing around. I may end up getting these actions when I have some spare spending money.
