Hello,
So today I decided to take my photographs in the RAW format for the first time. I got home, put my card in my cardreader, an can not upload them. Instead of the pictures showing it has a file with image number and says CR2 file. If I right click on one to try and open it says " can not open it is not the right kind of file". My camera is a Canon Rebel 350 D Rebel XT, and the software is Photoshop Elements 2.0 on my laptop right now. My desk top is out, and it has PSE5 on it and will be home sometime this week. Any suggestions on how I can upload these photos because my card is full, and need it for tomorrow's photographs. I guess this is what I get when I try something new. The photographs I have in the RAW format are very important, and from what I see turned out great. Thanks for any input. I question if I need to not use a cardreader or a different software program to open in. The pictures don't even show up in my pictures. Thanks, Krystal

Try using the Adobe DNG converter. Then just dumping the files til you get your photoshop back.

I don't know for sure but I'm wondering if PSE 2.0 doesn't work with RAW? I use Photoshop CS3 so I have never come across this problem before, but do some searching around on the net and I'm sure you could find a solution...good luck!

CR2 is canon's version of RAW. In much the same way NEF is Nikon's version.
Your Elements2.0 isnt going to be able to open RAW files: they didnt exist when PSE2 was made. You'd need to upgrade, or get a standalone RAW editor.

OP said it was PSE5, not 2.

Thanks so much. Not sure If I understand how to do this, but I will give it a try. I will let you know what works so if it does someone else can refer to it if they have the same problem.
If I get a new post processing software should I consider Lightroom or Photoshop CS3? Which one is more user friendly? It is time to upgrade. Thanks, Krystal

definitely PS, imo. LR is more user friendly, i think...but you can do SO much more in PS.
