Default Cloning / Healing Help

Hi,
Hope somebody can give me some pointers. In the embedded photo, I can't seem to clone out the power lines in the top RH corner, without buggering up the sky. I'm not very good at PP, other than tweaking colour balance, white balance and sharpening.

I use GIMP and Paint Shop Pro.....

Is there an easy way to do this?

Thanks in advance for your help

Sure is. When you're cloning in the sky, you have to pay close attention to the slight differences in color. Instead of cloning vertically along your power line, try cloning horizontally. You will need to reset your cloning origin a few times, but it should give you a true sky.

Hope that helps!

You're welcome. GIMP is a beast to learn pp on, but I wouldn't trade it for the newest ps! Let me know if it works!

Slick as loon poop!!

Reflections

The GIMP tutorials seem pretty good, I just need to take the time to learn program? are there any other sources or tips/tricks sites for the software, I need a glossary to figure out what half the tools do......since you seem to be an afficionado?

Thanks again,

LOL @ the loon poop! You did work it out, though!

As far as afficionado, I'm not too sure about that. There are quite a few tutes on youtube and there are plug-ins available on the GIMP registry forum, but I just jumped in and played with it. You can do many things like ps does them, so I've paid attention to what ps users have been told to do and adapted them as needed.

I think the lack of "formal" tutelage is why GIMP is the beast it is to learn! I'd say if you are familiar with layers, then grab an okay picture and play with it. Try an HDR look, or add a texture layer to your pic, do the cliches... they really help. If you're not familiar with layers... try it, you'll like it! (p.s. don't get a pic you're already happy with - you won't want to try much to it )

I force-fed my yearbook staff on GIMP and was pleasantly surprised with a few of them in the beginning. Now that we're wrapping the yearbook up, they are all pretty good at it and pretty creative! Of course, just jumping in can be nerve-wracking, but I think it's really effective with this great program.

I'll mess with layers and try to figure out what's happening.

Thanks for the link to plugins, they should help also.

Take Care

WIth something like that it's almost easier to just cut the buildings to a separate layer, and replacing the sky background with a gradient using colours sourced from your image.

Thanks Oz...

I may try that with this one... if I can control the cut enough to follow the skyline

I'd like to salvage the sky on the left hand side.... Do you think it's possible?

In Paint shop pro you also have the option of using the line removal tool. If you havent found it yet, its anifty lil thing. Same place as the clone tool. Just adjust the size of the tool and drag it along the line you want to remove and PRESTO! line all gone
