Default those of you with Nikon's who shoot RAW..

what raw editor do you use? i had a photoshop trial installed on my computer, and it allowed me to edit RAW images, but now that i've upgraded to the full version, everytime i try to open an .NEF it says "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document"

what else can i use for NEF's?

I use photoshop CS3 as well as lightroom to open my raw images. I use bridge for CS3 and right click the thumbnail then select open with camera raw. If you have photoshop you should have this option as well. Maybe a re-install would help? Sorry Im not a computer guru but Im sure there is someone out here who can help.

Same here (minus lightroom).

You need to update your Adobe Camera Raw.

I use Lightroom which utilizes the adobe camera raw engine. One suggestion I would make is that if you are using a Nikon camera is that you NOT use the default ACR profile. Instead, change it to the Camera Standard profile which will use a profile designed for your specific Nikon Camera. This will give you an initial conversion that is much closer to what the camera would do itself if you shot jpeg.

It's not the best solution but you could also use View NX (usually comes with the camera) to convert it in TIFF 16bit, than open the TIFF file with CS02.

The only thing I'm concerned with this is loosing some quality due to all this conversion. What do you guys think ?

What camera do you use? I have a D80 and D300 and photoshop CS2. No problem at all with adobe and the NEF from the D80 but they have not released an update for CS2 compatible with the D300. Best program to use IMO however is Nikons own Capture NX. I love it, you can do all your RAW adjustments and then transfer it to Photoshop.
