I have seen this advertied and i know you are trying to make your subject look great in a photo but this alters things like face shape and size!

Does this not strike anyonelse as immoraly wrong?

It will only change the shape/size if you allow it too. It doesn't have too.
The secret to PortraitProfessional is to dial it back some. Don't go to the extremes.

Default Not always

I use portrait professional for all my portraits, but I just do the adjustments all myself. Usually I first sharpen the eyes and lighten the iris some, it really brings out the color of the eyes that way. Then I use their sliders to do a light touch up, but no so much they look fake, then I'll take the touch up brush and touch up any larger blemishes. Sometimes I whiten the teeth some, but I've found this feature to be not so great so if they need a little whitening then sometimes I'll do it in another program. Very rarely will I adjust someones face, however I have used it to bring up the corners of the mouth a little for a child who didn't want to smile, and I used it subtly to give a thinner look to a face of a lady on the heaver side. Not so much that you would look at it and notice anything was done, but maybe enough so she wouldn't hate the way she looked in the picture. Oh and one time I had a couple where the man always had one eye open more than the other in the picture and it looked odd, so I was able to correct his eyes. I never completely change the look of someones face though, and I don't think that's what it's really meant to do. Usually I don't even touch that area at all.

I've taken a look at that software, a I even downloaded the trial version but I'm not sure if I want to alter anyone appearance that much. I mean you can make someone really different but you could also insult someone if you change their appearance too much. As if you telling them that they aren't pretty enough.

I'll use other programs for smoothing, etc -- but not for "plastic surgery" to the extent of Portrait Professional -- okay, maybe a little Liquidfy on a waist or thigh -- but you do what it takes to let the customer be happy.

I Msure customers are not coming to you for an exact record of themselves. They want to look the best they can...short of photoshopping a 100 pounds off of a person I dont see anything wrong with it.

I have tried a couple different versions of Portrait Professional over the past couple years, and I just find it very hard to like. Maybe I am missing something, but dragging those little squares around to outline eyes, nose, mouth etc. and then watching it "magically" transform into something other than what I captured is not for me. I just don't like the overall look and feel of the finished result even if I do uncheck the boxes.

For my own use, I have found Imagenomic Portraiture to be a better fit. I find dialing that back gives a more natural (and closer to original) look than anything I was able to achieve with Portrait Professional.

Too many images have been spoilt by this process-just google photoshop tutorials, and you will find meny better and free ways to enhance a portrait. And here's a tip with women's portraits: Show the image you have taken then show a mirror image,9 times out of 10 she will prefer the mirror image-It's how she sees herself every day! (Shhhhhh, No everyone knows this!) regards, Ken
