Try also getting the eyes larger in the frame - if you want to see the details, you need to have them bigger. I took a look at your pictures on your Flickr stream but you don't have the original versions available, so it is hard to judge if there is enough detail to bring out or not.

Lots of methods to do this. I have an action set up that creates a separate layer and applies the shadow/highlight adjustment to it. You can use the screen blend mode. A lot of professional retouchers use the dodge and burn tools. Others swear by curves.

I think the last one is more about the light. The first one has the light but you can def. tell it's been PP. Wasn't there a post recently from Natalie Norton about overdoing the eyepop thing? Some like it, some don't.

What I do is to select a soft brush the same size as the iris, set dodge tool to midtones and 13% -I use this to lighten the iris. Then I select a hard brush, same size as pupils using very dark grey, and zap each pupil. next i choose a broken rectangle brush type, adjust to size, and 15% opacity to start with, using white to place softbox type highlights in the eyes. regards, Ken

brown eyes are really hard to do.

unsharp mask and then make sure only the eyes are sharpened via masking.
use the dodge tool to lighten the iris, and burn the edge of the iris gently with burn tool.
it also helps to burn the eyelashes and pupil to get more pop.
you need to have good catchlights too. the spots in the middle of the pupil need to be removed, and you'll need catchlights across the edge if the iris into the white..
nice pictures tho, you've got a good lookin model there.

Default What I do

I use portrait professional. It's really easy and quick for the eye adjustments. Now good lighting in the eyes is a must, and a closer shot helps too. Here is an example of a self portrait I just did. I try not to overdo the eyes, but give them a pop, however with a little slide of a level I could have made them even more porcelin like. You can go to their website and download a free trial version to test out of you want.

Edited to add 2nd photo. I re-processed the eyes again, took just a few minutes, this shows you more of the effect in your 1st example. (Same photo just cropped differently to show you the eyes)

the strange thing is that it sometimes works, sometimes i get that error so i dont know what i'm doing wrong. can anyone give some advice as i'm a photoshop novice.
thanks!

I agree that the light in the eyes aren't post-processed they are captured.
