I have rebuilt my iPhoto Library and also deleted the plist. I have not yet tried repairing permissions. Would you recommend using iPhoto to repair the permissions or something like Onyx?

Ooo... power tools! Yeah, Onyx should be fine--I'm pretty sure it's just using the same command line stuff as Disk Utility to fix permissions.

Ok, I've been spelunking a thread on the Apple boards where some poor guy had an overfull hard drive and some serious iPhoto library corruption, and someone there suggested deleting the cache, in case that was corrupt. (/Users/[youraccount]/Library/Caches/com.apple.iphoto).

Repairing permissions didn't work. Hell, I'm backed up except for the few today for which I have copies. What the hell?

It was also suggested to me in the Apple Forums to use iPhoto Library Manager to create a new iPhoto Library. *shrug*

Here goes nothing!

*Edit in*

Ok, funny. I don't have the file /Users/my acct/Library/Caches/com.apple.iphoto.

With the newer versions of iPhoto you can have multiple libraries and with earlier versions (new ones too) you can use library managers. Starting a new library doesn't have to be a hardship except for having multiple places to search for a particular image. At least with a new library you can see if edits stick.

Good luck.

That might have changed with a more recent version. I think I have a similar set up to you and I have an iPhoto folder in Caches with several subfolders. There are files similar to the ones you named in caches for other programs.

I'll have to check the idea of multiple libraries - I find that iPhoto can be quite slow to load and I wonder if that is exacerbated by the number of photos (a mere 6,000 or so but I'm sure it used to be quicker). I could have a working library for the current year and a reference library for older pictures.

That's exactly what I'm seeing.

Anyway, I haven't pulled the trigger on deleting my cache or starting a new library yet. I'm leaving town tomorrow, so I'll see if I have time to do it when I get back before I move!

Thanks for the help. I'll be revisiting this thread sooner or later.
