Default Where do you store Videos?

We all have devices now days that are multi functional when it comes to taking pictures and video. Id be interested in hearing how you do file management when it comes to photos and video. A couple questions to get the discussion going:

Do you keep photos and videos in the same folder?
Do you have Lightroom/Aperture skip video when importing?
If they are not in Lightroom/Aperture but you keep them in the same folder how do you manage files when moving them around in Lightroom/Aperture?

I hope that's enough to get people to contribute to a good discussion on Photo/Video management

Short answer: it depends on the situation.

Long answer: if I'm working on a video project--meaning I have lots of clips that I'm going to edit together to create something--then I have a whole asset management structure I follow. My video workflow doesn't typically involve Lightroom at all, though version 4 may change that.

I shoot with a Sony FS100, which uses AVCHD (H.264 MP4 files, basically). My Mac Pro has three internal drives: System, Scratch and Render. With a new project, I create a new project folder. When I come back from a shoot, I copy the card into my Raw Media folder.

If I'm editing with FCP7, I then transcode the footage to ProRes. If I'm using Premiere, I don't transcode.

In either case, once everything is situated, I duplicate the project to an external hard disk.

We also have a fibre channel RAID, which I may use instead of Scratch, depending on the project.

If you're asking about just keeping track of clips that aren't going to be part of a bigger whole project, then I'd just use Lightroom.

Thanks for the info jdepould. I just didnt know if there was a better option out there for video management and if I should be using Lightroom for that.

But from what you wrote I am still not sure if you keep video and photos from the same event in the same folder or not.

I would also love to hear what other people do.

I don't typically shoot videos and photos at the same time. It hardly ever works out.

It also depends on the gear. None of my SLRs shoot video, but I took a D3s to Montauk last year, and did shoot a couple clips, which went into the LR folder.
