Default Photoshop Adding a Frame To my image using actions

I want to add a frame to my images.

The frame needs to be a feathered rounded corner rectangle in 50% grey.

Between this and the image a plain white border.

Now I don't have a problem doing all this manually however I want to make it an action that I can then generically apply to all images. Herein lies the problem.

I have done this using Rectangle Marquee as it allows me to do things relative to the image (ie I can select the image and use Expand and feather), however expand and feather needs absolute pixels. This means that the subtleness of the frame is very different depending upon whether the image is say 300x200 px or 3000x2000 px.

Is there anyway to paramertise the action where I expand and feather based on a value relative to the images size. So for 300x200 I expand and feather in the region of 30px but with the 3000x2000 I can do it by say 300 px?

I think you'll need to seperate actions one fro each size, or you can create 1 action and step thur it and change as you need it to..a little faster than doing it manually

Oki, one another note is there anyway to create this into a lightroom template, assuming in LR all my imgages will be max camera resolution?

You can change the steps in the action to reference relative positioning rather than exact location so it can be used on any size image.

I do not know that you can modify that action for Lightroom. You can make lightroom actions (presets) but using lightroom tools.

Thee are plug-ins available for lightroom to add frames or do other sorts of processing. (Nik, OnOne..etc)

***update***

Have managed to do this now and am pretty happy with the results,

It does seem that the step to expand and feather does seem to have to be done manually depending upon the image size

Canvas size -> check "relative" box -> insert measurement (in inches, px, whatever) or a % of total image size. Using a percentage will give you a constant border ratio based on varying image sizes.
