Question Do you save layers?

After editing a photo do you save the layers?
I don't, but I'm thinking maybe I should. The file size is huge in comparison, but having to go back and start over because I missed something can add a lot of time.
I don't often have to go back, and I don't often do a lot of work which is hard to duplicate.....but there are times.

If I'm working on something that I'm putting enough time into to use layers, I save them. 99% of my edits are done in LR, so things that go into PS are usually worth the extra space it takes.

The only exception to that is that I don't save the base layers when I'm doing a pano. Once PS has aligned it, I flatten it and crop it. If there's any extra work after that, then I'll save the layers.

I always save layers. Better safe than sorry. The only time I ever flatten an image for the file that is going to the web or print. Master files will have the layers because I never know when I may think about doing something slightly different or need to fix something I missed.

Really? If I go to PS I always use layers..adjustment layers, sharpening layers etc etc...
It's much easier to go back and change later.

I'm just really beginning to appreciate the value of that. Only save layers on something that gets quite convoluted..

I seem to follow Murphy's Law on Layers - I only need the ones I forget to save. More times than not I am flattening and not saving...must be some old habit from back in the day when disc storage was limited and expensive -

Default I think I should, but I don't.

I use layers a lot, but then I save flat in jpg. It's a matter of space. I have a lot of pictures. I save the good ones in two versions, sometimes more: hi res version for printing and 72 dpi for web. And sometimes in two sizes. If I start saving yet one more version, I think my files will explode.

The most work I do with layers is a highpass, which, frankly, doesn't take me very long and can be easily replicated. I dont often go any further than that: most of my work is done in my RAW developer.
