Question for those of you that got rid of the shadows - how the hell did you do that?

I am sure there are better ways, but I select the shadow using the quick selection tool so it has dancing ants around it. Then I use the clone stamp and select a similar area and paint away. The stamp only paints within the quick selection area and leaves the areas around it alone. Once the shadow is filled I deselect the dancing ants. Then I use the patch tool to blend any hard edges that don't look right.

That's not the original details being pulled out, that's NEW details being layered onto him.

What I've done in the past when the particular photo allows is to start with what Scott said above by grabbing the area with the Magic Wand tool, then switch to the Lasso Tool and move the area onto an adjacent area with similar tonality and texture, hit copy, move it back, hit paste, and use the Free Transfer Tool to place it back into the area to be covered. The Free Transfer tool will also allow you to drag various points of the pasted image that will allow you to blend it in better. It also creates a layer where you can use the Levels tool to adjust the tonality of your new paste to blend the overall tones in better.

Thanks, Vinnie. I was curious how this was done and was pretty certain it wasn't a case of cloning, lol. Good info to have!

Well guys.... It had the desired effect.... Here are a couple pictures of their little party today. You can see the reaction of my Mother, and even Dad cried. It really hit the mark and I want to thank every one for the their input and assistance.

Wow, that's awesome, Scott! Now that right there is what it's all about, people!

I did something similar like this for my mother a year or so back, and it seemed like she cried for a half-hour.
