Why is THIS happening. Is this normal? I don't remember it happening like this till recently.
Attached is one photo, before and after Content Aware. I'm looking to rid myself of the clock. When I use CA, I get the second picture. My first guess was that the opacity was tinkered with. But when you do: EDIT, FILL, opacity is already at 100%. I KNOW I did SOMETHING. Can someone steer me in the right direction, because I'm really starting to feel STUPID!!! Grrr! Thanks in advance! Content aware fill is not the best way to fix your problem. Try the patch tool or if your using an older version of Photoshop just make a selection of the wall and 'jump' it to a new layer Ctrl + j and move it over the clock. I would grab two selections one from in front of the clock and one from in back and put them over each other and blend them in with masks and the gradient tool. Otherwise ya you could mask her hair out and work on a layer that she does not exist on. Then put her back on the top layer.

When I do use Patch Tool, which is what I prefer, it blurs out the clock. :-\ Hence my head scratching. I know what I want to do...I know it can be done....I just can't do it. I put this under Content Aware, figuring I could select it and whack it out. But Patch Tool IS my instrument of destruction for this. But I thought that when I select and drag it onto a different area it would simply replace the selection (manually) and not blur over. Maybe I can play with the clock and move some of the numbers around to confuse the people that actually LOOK at the clock ;-) Many Thanks, Gary

I'd definitely recommend learning how to mask off areas for CA fill. I'd also recommend that when an edge of the area you're trying to fill is strongly patterned (as here, where the clock "touches" the hair) you go through with a brush or clone stamp and create a separation between the two before doing the selection and fill.
The algorithm that PS uses seems to try to extend any strong pattern from the edge of the fill area throughout. The same trick can really help when you use that patch tool. |

so many ways to do this but my favorite is the quickmask and paint over the clock and zoom in when painting the edge of the hair. soften the edge of the mask between the wall and the clock. exit quick mask and with eye dropper tool, click on the left side of the wall and press x to reverse the foreground/background box and click on the right side, and with the gradient tool apply gradient on the selection. to complete the picture, also with the eyedropper tool, click on the color of the hair and with a small soft brush, opacity at 10% paint on the red portion of the hair caused by the red clock. i'm using cs2

I took the easy way out and used the Clone Stamp. I've got time now, so I'm going to review the link you provided Ed. Doug, I'm going to play with your idea next. I'm guessing this is the beauty of PS. There are so many different roads to take to get to the same end result. It's more a matter of preferences and what you're comfortable using. However, once you actually learn ALL the features of this program...WOW!!! Thanks everyone for your input and assistance! It was greatly appreciated!!! Gary

You're welcome and don't worry. You don't need to apologize. It doesn't matter; the only thing that matters is that the link was helpful.
