Default How to get this effect?

I came across this photo and I'm trying to figure out how to get these light dots around the portrait. Any ideas? If it is a Photoshop effect, which one is it?

Click here to view the photo I'm talking about.

Thanks.

I think it is a combination of two images.

(1) The portrait
(2) A "Bokeh Lights" photograph.

Do a Google image search "Bokeh lights" and you will see what I mean.

Yeah, what Richard said as I'm pretty sure that it's impossible to get the bokeh in that image without having done it in a layer in PS.

I agree with Richard. This is most likely two photographs combined together in photoshop. Using layer mask or some other technique. Its really a pretty cool affect.

I would say all you need to do is get some multi colored christmas lights, take a few pictures of them out of focus so you have a nice glowing orb in a pattern you find nice. Then take a nice portrait and combine the two.

I might have to try this myself.

Notice how the flare of 3 dots on the centre (a bit to the right) and the flare of 3 dots on the lower left of the image is EXACTLY THE SAME, including lower reflections, but in a different scale and size.

Agreed, I think that's exactly what was done, and yeah it looks pretty cool. I'm going to try it!

The same with the grouping of lights at the top right and the ones to the left of her ear. They just repeat, but made smaller Yes, I agree. The bokeh lights are a different layer.
