Question Help me with resizing my photos?

Hi everyone, I am trying to figure out how to resize my photos for uploading to a specific site. The site asks for a width of 950 pixels or less. I have several software programs; Kodak Easy Share, Canon Digital Photo professional, Windows Photo Gallery, Windows Live Photo Gallery, and GIMP shop.

Quite by accident on one of the programs I discovered a way to enter the size I wanted for width, and the height automatically reset. It was great because I could size the photos exactly to the preferred size, not too big, but not smaller than necessary (which causes loss of details).

Okay, the problem is that I now don't remember what I did , and try as I might I can't seem to find that option again, I don't even remember which program I was using at the time! So in desperation, I am coming here hoping someone will be familiar with some of these programs and tell me what to do.

I know with Kodak Easy Share I can resize, but not to a specific pixel size, just 75%, 50%, or 25%, none of which are quite right.

Thanks for your help!

Usually with most programs you go to image>resize, it brings up a box and you can change the way you resize it, either in set amount or percentages, and in inches,cm or pixels. then you enter the largest size you want in the box that already has the largest number. Make sure you have it set to keep aspect ratio and it should resize the shorter side to match. Click apply ok or whatever and you are good to go.

What Ambrsia said, except IIRC in GIMP it's image > scale.
