Default Changing image dimensions

Just wanted to get an idea of how some other photographers do this.

When saving your photos as JPEGs for archiving or for whatever other reason do you ever change the dimensions? Or do you just leave them at 3888x2592 (10MP) or whatever your camera saves them as?

Thanks

If you're shooting jpg, I'd strongly recommend preserving the original file straight out of the camera. Any post-processing should be done on a copy, resizing is the absolute last step before you upload. If you're working with layers, I'd also recommend saving a working file with your edits. That way you can go back and make changes without starting over.

I shoot RAW then save and store as JPEG. I've decided that any pictures that I really like I'll just save as their original dimensions and any just for fun pictures I'll resize to save space.

Shooting RAW, I only ever actually make JPGs of the best shots. Theyre always saved as full-size with smaller versions being saved as separate files.

Why don't you archive the original RAW files? They contain all the information in the image. A jpg is a lossy format that compresses the data, meaning some of it is discarded. Storage is cheap these days, so I would save the RAW files. You can always generate another jpg from a RAW file, but not vice versa.

Never said I didnt. Of course I keep the RAW files. It'd be downright STUPID not to.
