I agree 100% with that^^^

Being that I am a beginner, I myself probably fall into the "Joe customer" category. Being in the Joe customer category, I don't really care that a particular style I like is "overdone" in the minds of professionals.

If I'm a paying customer, I want the photographer to accommodate my wishes and if they can't / won't, there are other photographers who will. It's that simple.

The photographer doesn't have to display the selective color image in their portfolio, they can show the shot they way they want to; but the customer should be given what they want..... IMO

And I agree with both zona5101 and Gulf Coast Girl...

The customer is hiring/commissioning both your (expensive) tools and your expertise to do a job for them, it's not very professional to go against the customers wishes.

For instance, if I were a cabinetmaker and a customer wanted a kitchen cabinet made with a porthole surrounded by flashing neon lights in the door - with a goldfish tank behind the porthole ... no matter how garish I may think their tastes were, after first (very politely) suggesting some other alternatives, if they persisted I would then do my best to make their dream a reality - after all, I'm not a member of the "Taste" police - that's what they want, then that's what they get (plus you'll probably get a call for a second job to get rid of all this and do it conventionally when they come to their senses).

I guess it depends on your main goal with photography. If you have a certain style and you want to mainly express yourself through the art of photography then you don't change just for the money. If you are a commercial photographer and your main goal is to please customers at all cost, then you do what they ask because they are paying you.

I say gimmick or not it depends on your mood and particular photo.
Apart from that.if your customer wants it he/she should get it,as said above.
