Default EXIF data disappears after editing in CS5

I am at a loss.

I shoot in RAW so all of my photos are saved as NEF files. When I open them in the RAW editor in CS5, make all of the necessary adjustments, and then open photoshop to edit... I file > save as for web & devices... and it completely erases my EXIF data.

HOWEVER, when I open in the RAW editor, make necessary adjustments, open in photoshop, edit, and file > SAVE AS... it keeps the EXIF data in tact.

What makes the "save as for web" function erase the EXIF data? Is there any way to keep it from doing this? I'd rather not stop using the "save as for web" function...

Anyone else have this problem before?

I've never really bothered to use Save for web and devices. What would be the benefits for doing so? I've always thought it better to create a copy of the master file (PSD) the size and ppi you need and save it as jpeg.

On the right side of the Save for Web & Devices screen, there is a pulldown menu next to Metadata. The default is Copyright and Contact Info. If you change it to All, the EXIF data will be retained.

I won't get into the difference between or preference for Save As... or Save for Web & Devices, because, well, I don't really have any informed opinion or good information on that

save for web compresses and optimizes the files for web viewing thus stripping out as much un-needed data as possible, enable faster loading in ones browser..it also reduces the resolution to 72 whichis optimal for web and anything above 72 is really a waste of bandwidth.

Awesome. It worked. Thank you SO much! I am anal about retaining my EXIF data, and this was really bugging me.
