Default Editing Software

Hi guys. I was messing around in the photo editing software that came with my camera, and it doesn't appear to have a paint brush. I can change Exposure, WB, Sharpness, Contrast, etc..but I can't seem to find anything that allows me to fix any particular area of the photo. I have to adjust all or nothing. (it seems)

The program is Nikon's ViewNX2.

I'm looking for suggestions on photo editing software. Please put your two cents in?

I'm assuming Photoshop is gonna be high on the list, but what other ones do you folks use?

Side Note: I did a search for editing software on the forums, and got a squillion results, none of which seemed to have what I was looking for. I stopped flipping through them at about page 3.

Best Regards,

Steve.

I would go with Gimp which is free or if you are willing to spend, go with photoshop. My two cents

GIMP or Paint.net are solid, free alternatives.

If you want to stick with Nikon software and shoot RAW, take a look at their Capture NX. It's a different approach to editing, but it's not free like View NX.

I wasn't too concerned so much about the budget, more concerned about the functionality, and the reviews of the people here.

Thanks!

It's not so much that it couldn't be found here, its just that if the answer does exist here, it appears to be buried in a haystack.

Best Regards.

If money is no object, go for CS5. You can download a trial version at the Adobe website. While you're at it, try Lightroom, too, and see which you like. Some people use both.

I use Lightroom3 for most of my stuff, and GIMP if anything ever needs to be done special.

If you are going to go off the deep end (like me) Then it is CS5 and the Topaz bundle.
If you are a student or a teacher you can get CS5 in the U.S.A for $200.00 instead of $800.00 the topaz bundle is around another $180.00 or so.

Both are compatible for Mac. I have an iMac. Also do not forget to pick up a monitor balancer. I use the Spyder Elite 3 which is around $200.00
