Default free raw image viewer/converter

Hi,

I am stuck with an Olympus e-410 and Olympus master software. I shot raw but I am having problems with Olympus Master. Is there a good free alternative to Olympus Master and P-shop? I tried Raw Therapee but it crashes.

Thanks

Irfanview does a surprising number of things really well for a small, free program (I just used it this weekend to do some image resizing). I believe it'll let you view Olympus RAW's, but I can't say for sure from personal experience.

I've never used it, but a lot of people here on DPS swear by UFRaw.

I found that Rawtherapee 2.X crashes under windows and linux as well. I have had great luck with the Beta 3 of Rawtherapee under linux (haven't tried it under windows). It includes a batch mode and Raw browser as well.

Other than that I have used UFRaw with Gimp under windows. I don't like it as much but it works. I can't remember where I found the instructions (google) but I was able to install a driver so that windows could preview my Sony raw files as well.

Faststone is pretty good for converting from RAW to other formats (under the tools menu) as well as being a fairly simple editor itself. It has many nice features such as being able to resize photos, rename them, add watermarks, etc.

FastStone Image Viewer - Powerful and Intuitive Photo Viewer, Editor and Batch Converter

According to their website, it'll handle Olympus .orf files.

You don't say what the problems you are having with Olympus Master are, or what version you are using. Have you tried to go to the Olympus website and download the most current version of Olympus Master (currently v2.3)? They also have a newer program... Olympus Viewer 2 that has replaced Olympus Master 2. All of these are free... and available from the Olympus website.

(And, if you are experiencing all of these troubles with imaging software, you may want to have your computer checked and or updated... )

Thanks all. I found that the new Olympus viewer works best. Looks and function the same as Olympus master with a black background.
