I am new to digital photography and often find when I try to print enlargements of my images that a lot of my picture is cropped off. Is there a solution to this or do I just need to pull back when taking the shot?

Your camera likely captures photos in a 2:3 height/width ratio. If you then have the photo enlarged to a different ratio like 4:5 (8x10) then you are going to lose chunks off the ends. The only way to prevent this is to take the shot planning to lose the ends of the photo. If you get enlargements in sizes that match the original 2:3 ratio like 8x12 you won't lose anything.

most print sizes are cropped off. only like 4x6 or 8x12 sizes are not cropped. One thing that might help in your disposition is to think of the final product before hand. So when you are shooting you can keep in mind if it is going to be printed at cropped sizes or uncropped electronic display.
