Default Struggling with ICC printer/paper settings!!

Hi, all.
This is my first posting on this forum.
I have recently replaced my existing Canon printer for a new Canon IP4850, i use a MAC and when working in CS4 my ICC settings seem to be ok but the prints coming off the printer are dark, no matter what i do, I have changed profile settings between Canons colour profiles and Adobe RGB 1998, but the only thing that changes is the hue, the photo remains dark on the print and I'm beginning to get frustrated.

Here is an example of a photo where it is typically happening, the male's face is very dark on the photo and begins to loose definition,

Can anyone help

PS. i have tried to download ICC settings for the printer and the paper i'm using ( Kodak Ultra Premium Photo Paper) but i'm having no joy

Help!!!!

How are you using the ICC profiles? For "soft-proofing" you need to go to the "view" menu and setup "prrofing options" to use the new profile. You still edit using the wider Adobe/Pro-Photo colorspace (well, I do anyways).

Your biggest issue is probably monitor calibration..you can use the built in mac diplay calibration, but a hardware solution is better.

I can only make a few guesses -

You've double checked that the printer settings have color management turned off?

Your monitor profile was calibrated correctly, very often dark prints are the result of an incorrectly performed calibration, either of the paper (due to lighting, printer settings when the test patches were printed , etc) or of the monitor.

unfortunately I don't know enough about canon printers to really help further.

Let your software, Photoshop, Lightroom or whatever control the print process.
