Default Help...my pics get very saturated whenever I save an edit

Hi there, guys! I知 a newbie in this site, so help

Sorry for cutting it short, but I have recently bought a Sony a230 and I知 having problems when trying to edit my pictures. Picture Manager and GIMP have begun auto-"correcting" most of my photos (either in RAW or Jepg) whenever I save an edit.
I知 just a beginner with DSLR, I never had this problem with my Cannon so I would really appreciate your help and understand how does this thing work because it seems really strange to me.

Thx a lot.

Could be a color space issue. Your camera probably takes pics in AdobeRGB. Your editing program may use the same or another color space, and pictures saved as Jpegs should be is Srgb. Many programs auto convert the color space when saving as Jpeg.

Thx for the reply. Yes, my camera takes pictures in Adobe RGB. Maybe the problem is that I need a raw file converter...I'm not very sure if that would solve the problem. Any other suggestion???

I think I found the problem, I have to download the RAW file converter that comes with the Camera.

I believe RAW doesnt have a colour space as such so you can asign any you wish, it is when you convert to JPEG a colour space is assigned. GIMP can handle adobe RGB you just need to set it in preferences as your working colour space. Bear in mind when viewing adobe RGB JPEGs in other application that are not colour managed they may look dull.

To be honest it may be best to switch your camera to sRGB and leave GIMP in sRGB as well to simplify your workflow, plus your files should look the same in all applications. For what you can potentially gain using adobe RGB I wouldnt say its worth it... but that is a personal opinion and you can work with adobe RGB and get great results.

Yeah, you are right! That's what I was thinking too, to switch my Camera only to sRGB so it will be much easier to use it and edit the pics. Actually, I made some test last afternoon by converting the pics to sRGB, and it's not that there was any big difference in picture quality, I mean.

Honestly, It was very boring to convert all raw pictures one by one from adobe RGB to sRGB, so I better start using only sRGB as a color space in my camera.

Once again, thx for the suggestion Very helpful!
