Default Trying to fix a blurred photo

I have used the high pass and unsharp mask plugins but I am still unable to get required sharpness on sunset.jpg. (Sharpening was done in LAB mode.)

Other than going back and retaking the shot, which I will probably do much later, are there any other techniques that I could use to sharpen the photo.

I have exaggerated the process and the colors for emphasis here, because the photo is of low quality.

Sunset_sharpened

Do this with your original:

Duplicate Layer and activate.

Go to the toolbar and click, Filter > Other > High Pass

Enter in a value of around 4 or 5px to start

Duplicated layer still selected, click blending mode and “Overlay.”

Turn the layer on or off to check your results.

If that’s not enough then go to Mode, Lab Color, Lightness, then click Unsharp Mask once or twice. Return to RGB Mode.

You could also consider using other software: Recover Detail and Sharpen Your Blurred Photos

Thanks for the advice, but I have already tried those techniques.

1. What I was wondering was whether there were any other photoshop or gimp techniques that one could use to sharpen images.
2. Also, it never occurred to me to use other software. I will have a look at that.

Thanks

the only obvious blur in this photo is the mountain range, fortunately it is a silhoutte.
another way would be to duplicate the image and use sharpen, sharpen edges. i did this twice to sharpen the mountains but pixelized the clouds specially the small ones. made a layer mask and brushed with a soft brush the pixelized clouds to reveal the original clouds.
after flattening, you can sharpen the clouds a bit by using the sharpen tool set at 20% opacity click on the clouds.

At larger dimensions that silhouete is very distracting. But you seem to have dealt with the blur quite well.
Love the edit. That is what I was hoping for.

i will try what you have suggested and let you know how the pic turns out.
