Having my issues in RAW! I made changes to a CR2 file without making a DNG first - thought I could delete the xmp file to revert to the original look but that deleted the whole picture. Recovered the picture - now what? The reason I want to revert is the following:
Using the adjustment brush I tried to darken the exposure on the sky ... I keep ending up with what looks like a great amount of noise ... can you give suggestions or point me to some tutorials? Thanks ...

I dont know why you're making DNG files, but that's irrelevant.
Your RAW converter should have an option somewhere to set the CR2 file back to "As Shot" settings.

The only As Shot function I see pertains to white balance ... but I did delete my adjustment brush placeholders so I'm back to more or less the beginning ... I thought you were supposed to make DNG files to work on, leavnig the CR2 looking as shot ....

The CR2 image should have .xmp sidecar files when you make an edit (at least with ACR). The XMP files are what store your settings. Deleting the XMP resets the CR2 back to the camera default.

Didn't work for me - seemed to delete the whole file when I deleted the xmp file ... unless it just moved it around so I didn't see it ...

I'm assuming you are on a windows machine. Open the folder in windows and reorder them based upon name (just to get them back into the original order.) Deleting the .xmp file should should not delete the .cr2 file.
What are you using to edit the .cr2 files? All programs that I've ever used have an option to revert to as shot/original. Typically found in the menu bar of the program.

I have never converted to DNG. I currently use LR or DPP, depending upon what the shoot was.

Hi - I'm working on a PC in CS4 and have Adobe Camera Raw 5.6 (or whatever latest version works with CS4) ... I work from Bridge, doubleclick on the file and it opens in ACR -- I'm not seeing this revert to original thing ... I've been through the menu bar and I only see options for adjustments to the picture ... so no one uses DNG files, huh?
