Default LightRoom 3 automatically changes settings

Hey all

I am new to lightroom but loving it. I have run into one issue. When I view a raw file, lightroom seems to adjust the white balance and tones automatically. I recently imported a black and white photo and lightroom adjusted it to color. I am not sure where I should start looking to stop this little annoyance. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Are you sure Lightroom is applying settings and not just showing you the RAW file?

You may be right. Still pretty new to this so thank you! Even when I open the Raw file in Photoshop it opens as color and I made my changes there.

Lightroom 3 is showing you the raw. Look at the image in the develop screen and on the right side select camera calibration then open the drop down called Profile. There you should see Black and White.

I like shooting in vivid in my Nikon and to see it I have to do this.

Yeah, RAW files are always in color. Lightroom will show you the embedded JPG until it has loaded the RAW file, so you may see the black and white until it's finished loading then it'll switch back to color.

Great info. Thanks so much for the help everyone. The whole time I thought I had enabled some preset or something.
