Default prints and photobook

i have been wondering about getting prints of my photos.....i first experimented with 16x20 from walgreens that turned out okay...reasonably priced at 15$...not bad...but it was mail order...had to wait a week...i travel alot and am rarely home to recieve my mail.....i'm very tenative with this as my skills are not such that it would justify prints this large of my shots...but i am curious about a few in a larger format and seeing them in another way than a computer monitor....so occasionally i will splurge and have been going the 8x10 route...last time i used a rite-aid and they cropped my photos in a wierd way...they didn't charge me but why did it look fine on line and was chopped when they printed it....and this was a 5x7...last week went to walgreens cause i got a coupon for a free 8x10 with 20 4x6 order and they chopped my 8x10....so i'm not happy with the drugstore kiosk/online order....what to do???...how do i know my photos will be printed as i see them on my computer???.........i also have experimented with the photobook....i am awaiting my book from shutterfly that i sent to my sister...hopefully that will turn out the way it looked online...i took the advise from nicolescraps...hopefully she will write the article she mentioned on this subject and maybe some other printing advise.....any thoughts or tips from anyone would be appreciated....thank you.....

I did write that up today. It is over in the printing and post processing area of the forum.
As far as the printers cropping your photos in a way that you don't like, maybe try cropping them to size before you send them in to be printed. That way you control the crop, not them.
