Default Photoshop and NEF

I just got a D300s and shoot in Raw. When I try to open in PS3 I get the message "Could not complete request because it is not the right kind of document?

Any ideas?

I use Photoshop CS4 Extended and had to get a codec for NEF files. If I can remember where I got it I will post the link for you.

Update: The thread on photo.net recommends that you go to the Adobe website and download the latest raw converter for your version of photoshop.

Check this one out if the Adobe website is no help.

Free-Codecs.com :: Download Nikon RAW Codec 1.9.0 : Nikon RAW Codec enables you to handle RAW image files under Windows Vista

You'll need to download the DNG converter 6.1 from adobe because the files from the D300s aren't compatible with CS3. So what you'll need to do is convert your files to DNG in order to work on them in CS3. The download link is on the right hand side of the adobe page.

If you have the means, LightRoom 3 is a great compliment to any version of Photoshop...

Thanks for the responses. Its a bit of a kerfuffle the format not being supported by Photoshop and I haven't really got into understanding the whole import process in Lightroom, so I think I might opt for upgrading Photoshop

Can you tell me if the same applies to the D90/CS2 versions? I'm guessing it does.
I decided to take the plunge and attempt working with RAW files, but of course I've got the same 'incompatible' message. I tried trawling around the net looking for answers, but every thing I found assumed some knowledge of computer files - of which I have none! Any help in extreme basic plain english would be appreciated.

OK, well that didn't work.
I downloaded the latest DNG converster for CS2 and I get a message "No files were converted - There was an error parsing the file".
Any suggestions??

I didn't have to download anything manually, I just updated the CS4 the it automatically downloaded it for me.

CS2 cant open D300s files: you need CS4 or 5.
