Default Raw conversion problems

I know this has been asked a thousand times before and I have found a fair bit of info on the subject, but still nothing works. Have downloaded Adobe camera raw 4.6 (I think ) and have done what has been sugested but it still comes up with "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document"

If there is anyone who has the time to talk me through it one process at a time, it would be greatly appreciated.

Ps- I must be a clown as it just doesn't make much sense, not an overly computer literate person am I.

thanks again

You have Nikon D300, right? (snooping through your Flickr pics) ..That should be supported in the ACR 4.6 so maybe problem isn't there. But just for the sake of redundancy, did you install the update?

What version of Photoshop do you have? Did you restart it after installing the update?

+1. Do you have an older version of Photoshop? I use CS2 and cannot open RAW files from my Canon XSi because Adobe stopped making ACR updates for CS2 for newer cameras. I also have Elements 7 so I have to open my RAW files in ACR through Elements, do my tweaks, then I save as a DNG and reopen in CS2 to finish any editing.

Let us know what version of Photoshop you're using, you might be able to install an ACR update.

ETA: Just checked your EXIF on Flickr and it shows you're using CS3. Here is the page for a Windows update: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...jsp?ftpID=3822
And here is the page if you're using Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...jsp?ftpID=3825

ETA one more time, lol: This is for update 4.3.1 - older than 4.6, I believe, but worth a shot? Hmmm..... Make sure you follow the directions in the read-me file to the letter - I know I've often made the tiniest mistake installing things and have royally screwed up, LOL.
Hope this helps.

I had the same problem when I bought my D300. Adobe stopped making ACR updates compatible with CS2 before they added support for the D300. I ended up switching to LightRoom for RAW processing then editing in CS2 for advanced editing.

Thanks for the replys guys i will try to answer all qestons.

I have "Adobe photoshop cs3 Extended" Version 10.0.
I have installed raw plugin updates and restarted photoshop, have also placed the files into a folder on my desk top like the adobe sight says along with the downloaded verion and still it comes up with what i originally posted rgarding wrong document.

Perhaps its because it is photshop extended.

Sorry for the hassels but it is starting to give me the sh*^s.

Thanks again

And yes it is a D300

Shouldn't matter that it's extended version. That only has some more features than normal version.

Can you open the raw files with some program that came with the camera? Not sure what stuff Nikon ships with the cameras but I'd guess there would be some raw processing software with it or available for free in the web.

I think that I might be able to, but i think its only a trial version. Might have to take it to someone more computer literate.

Thanks for the help though, will continue to try and see what happens
