Question Layers

Can somebody (anybody), please, explain to me how to work with layers. I am new to digital photography; I have a lot of experience in the darkroom, but when it comes to manipulating images on a computer... well, let's just say I'm clueless.

It all depends on what you want to do. Can you be more specific?

If you're looking for general information, there's tons of it out there:

Here's a simple layers tutorial that might help you out. It covers the basics.
