Hi!
I just recently started using Lightroom...When I export my photos, they save just fine to the disc, in the condition they were when I exported them. However, when I re-open Lightroom, the files that I exported are cropped in closer and are all rectangular. (I've been cropping into a square format lately.) I don't have ANY clue how to fix this and it's driving me crazy Any help would be appreciated!Thank you!

Top left of the image, there's a little menu - Fit : Fill : 1:1 : 2:1 - What's that set to?
Set it to fit. (sorry if this isn't the answer) S

That doesn't seem to have worked
But thank you for your suggestion, Sime!

They are cropped in closer, not simply resized.

Could you let us know a little more please?
Which Lightroom version? Which mode (Library, Develop, Print, Web, etc.) are you seeing this in at start up? Does the image reset to its original format or post editing version when you change mode? How are you exporting, i.e. are you using a plug-in or through the standard Lightroom export? Can you see the original image in its full size at any point after an export? Do you see the full picture after a Reset of the photo's settings? Essentially we want to eliminate each of the steps we can to diagnose the error you are experiencing. There are a multitude of areas that I can think of that could be affecting you, including and not limited to... 1. An export plug-in may be altering settings 2. An export through the Print module (by printing JPG) may look at paper size (can't remember off hand if this occurs) and as such, when you reopen Lightroom, you are seeing your image on a Paper, with Zoom to Fit enabled 3. If the original image cannot be seen and only the newly cropped version, then is it possible you are monitoring a thumbnail or other folder? (Not that I think this is likely!) 4. You may have a version that requires an update applying to it. |

Did you try Sime's suggestion? Trying to re-create this. I opened an image in lightroom cropped it to square then hit fill, and it seems to behave exactly as you describe. Zooming out (by pressing "fit" in the navigator box or the keyboard shortcut ctrl and the minus key) I see the entire square cropped image. Also, in the develop module, if you activate the crop tool, you should see the entire image with the current crop overlay on the image. If that's not it, I'm not sure what it is.

When I export, I export to the original folder, re-writing the files that were edited to save the new versions of them. When I initially export them, they do not appear cropped. When I go directly to the folder (not in LR, just in windows explorer), they are not cropped either. However, in LR, they show up cropped in close and all changed into a typical rectangular format, rather than the square format I've been cropping them to recently, since I've been working with a fisheye lens.
LR version: 2.6 Mode: Develop The image does not reset to original format, but appears to crop itself before my eyes, after exporting. I am exporting via Lightroom export. I just now tried going to an individual photo and hitting "Reset" under "Develop Settings" and that worked!!! But how do I keep it from doing that in the first place? I did try Sime's suggestion, but it didn't appear to make any difference with this problem I think it's the actual photo being cropped, not necessarily the display settings.Should I try updating my version? How do I go about that? Thank you all so much! I really appreciate your help!

if you export to the same folder and you do not resync the folder, you won't see the edited versions when you are viewing from within lightroom.
Quote:
Resync/the folder and see if you don't have 2 versions of the images |
