Software suggestions

I've been using Nikon NX2, with decent results, but I can't stand what it does to my computer. This thing just crawls with NX2 installed.

So I have decided to get something else.

I don't want to go the CS5 route. To much for my needs and I just don't have the time to devote to learning it properly.

So I'm thinking of Elements or maybe Gimp. I just finished with the Lightroom 3 beta, and really liked that, so it might be a player.

Any thoughts on this? Why one over the others?
