Yes it is a form of black and white point adjustment the idea being if there both set correctly the other colours should be right hence the colour correction link.

The way this is different is it defines the black and white points as points that still have detail thats why it is called "meaningful black" and ties in with the zone system.

It can be performed manualy and the script just simplifies it and automates the task but here are some links from episodes of meet the gimp that talk about the process and the script and what its trying to achieve, some episodes are a bit long but I found them interesting .... but it is another way of setting black and white points all be it differently.

Hope you find it interesting

I don't know if it is my lack of internet speed, but I waited for quite a while for the videos to load, and just gave up after about 15 minutes or so. I did, however go to the forum, and readit from newest to oldest, as recommended, and got what I think I needed out of it. I am starting to understand it somewhat, but it does help to have a decent grasp of the zone system. Thanks for the info.

On another note. I also downloaded the resynthesizer plug in, along with the updated patch to correct the random replacement area ploblem it was having. I still can't get it to work. When I run the "heal" script, it calls for the resynthesizer, and just crashes. Any ideas on this? I may need to wipe it and start from scratch. I am very interested in this tool, and from some of the screenshots I have seen, it works quite well.

I like Mathmap, but it's probably no earthly use to someone who isn't a spherical pano nut or a mathematician.

Well, unless you want to Droste something.

I actually really love math! It just doesn't love me! The one reason I dropped out of electronics. Which coincidentally is the backbone of it. Cruel joke played on me! lol!

Just tried the resyntersizer plugin im using windows vista and used the pre compiled version of resyntersizer, there were some scripts to. After putting the files in my GIMP portable folders I tried the remove selection script and it ran.

Did you extract the resyntersizer plugin and its folder to "GIMP\App\gimp\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins "and the scripts to "GIMP\App\gimp\share\gimp\2.0\scripts" ... or the appropriate places for your operating system? thats the only thing off the top of my head I can think of as there both dependant on the file being in the speciafied place or resynthersizer wont be called up to run and may crash.

Although could be a script error, maybe there are some updated scripts? Im not too sure if it is still maintained as a plugin, it doesnt seem to be included in any gimp packages which is a shame could be a great plugin

I really need to start reading more carefully. I was trying to use the 013b version. I didn't even see the windows compiled version until I got on sourceforge. It works perfectly now.
Thanks again!
