Aperature 3 corrupt images

I just installed the trial of aperture 3 on my mac and when I open an image it is all 'messed up' with bands of color and all sorts of oddness on 1/2 to 3/4 of the photo. It's this way for all photos and they look fine in iPhoto. Looks like a memory or video driver problem, but everything else on the computer works fine. Any ideas as to how to resolve?
