Hi Everyone,
I use lightroom and photoshop combination and think they are great. However, when I edit a photo from lightroom in Photoshop it creates such huge files. I've tried TIFF and PSD formats but they both go into the hundreds of megabytes per photo, and if I use layers they go even larger. This just really doesn't seem practical to me so I wondered if there is something I am missing. Cheers

No, there is nothing you are missing, that is basically the nature of the beast.
Try saving in psb (Photoshop's large format file type) rather than psd. I have found it saves a little bit of disk space - but depending on what other software you use, you may lose the ability to open them in other software. Also, un-check the "maximize compatibility" option. This saves a flattened image along with the layers for older versions of PS if newer filters are used. Hope that helps. |

If you save big images as psd it'll be a big file. But storage these days is relatively cheap. 1TB external HDs cost less than $100.
While you still need to edit the image save as psd. Once you decide it's finished save as jpg or which ever lossy format and you'll get fairly small file that you still can use for printing.
