Default How could I achieve this look?

Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone had any idea's how this post processing was done. I really like the look of these photos and they have an almost "cartoon-ish" look to them. I would LOVE any tips or tutorials getting the effect. Any help is appriciated
Here are the links to the photos in mention

Thanks

Looks like some kind of HDR/oversharpening. Why not go ahead and ask the user?

I would say the colours in the photos have been processed different one seems to have extra contrast the other seems desaturated. Both can be achieved in different ways to pop colours you can use hue saturation or channel mixer tool theres a great article here on that on the actual site "how to selectivley pop colour".

But for the kinda 3D look both pictures seem to have it looks similar to a tutorial I saw where they used a highpass filter with a larger radius in hard light blend mode to sharpen the image and give it a similar look hope it gives you some ideas.

That's a pretty common style right now. Basically the edge contrast is made stronger so there is kind of a grungy feel to the foto.

If you have PS CS5, try this:
- Edit the photo with the new HDR-Toning feature, it should look kind of edgy but not to much.
- Select all, copy, step back in the history until you are at the original picture, paste.
- Now you should have two layers, the original and the HDR-Toning version
- Set the layer to overlay or soft light (one should look better)
- Hide the HDR-Version with a layer mask
- Paint in the HDR-Version with a brush and about 50-70% of opacity, but only on clothes etc. an not on the skin

There are severel other methods to achive this look, including the high pass filter etc. but this is the easiest way I could think of.

Thanks everyone for their help and input!!

OsmosisStudios: I've tried a couple things and I think I now have an idea of how the photographer got their results. I always feel uncomfortable asking someone how they processed their photos but I think I just may do this.

mpimage: Thank you, I will look into it. I believe you do have to pay for the Lucas Art plug in though, correct?

teaking: Thanks so much, I've fiddled around with what you said and I have gotten a result that I liked. I'll keep on experimenting and see what I come up with.

zappo: Thank you for your help. Unfortunately I have Cs3 and it doesn't have that feature (at least to the best of my knowledge). But I have been playing with the high pass filter and unsharp mask and using your directions that way.

You all were a great help, thanks

The second shot looks kinda like they did something I've done. If I remember right you add a black and white or desaturated layer set to overlay, then adjust the opacity til it has the look you want. And maybe a lil contrasting, can't really remember.

Disclaimer: I am a total noob and have no idea what I'm talking about.

AdrenoJunkie: thanks for replying. i agree, it does look like they used the technique you described. and LOL to the noob comment (yes I'm aware how lame and childish I sound writing "lol"). But I've only had my dslr for a year and a half, so I'm very much a noob as well
