Question How can I make this image better?

Ok first, here is the story.

My mom is into gardening. Like REALLY into it. It's practically all she talks about. She's been asking me over and over to take pictures of her tulip garden.

So I took some pictures, but I also took some of my son "in" the tulips. I thought it would make a nice mother's day present.

It was of course full-sun (boooo for squinting!!!) and my little guy wasn't cooperating at all.

Anyway, here's the shot:

After I shot it I said to my husband "The sun is too bright, let's try again later this evening when the sun isn't as bright.".... but of course it started thunderstorming.

Anyway, I know it's nowhere near perfect, but I'm 6-months pregnant, exhausted, and decided I just have to work with what I have!

SO that being said, what would you guys to do make this image better? Should I try to lighten his face more? Should I crop it (this is un-cropped)?

I don't know, I'm just not fully satisfied with it!

Your mother is wanting a nice picture...not perfection. And you have a cool picture.

Since she wants a photo of her garden, I might give her one like this (uncropped). Your son is part of her garden. Then I might create another image by cropping it to make your son the clear star of that photo. One cropped in portrait (rather than landscape) layout might be nice.

I'll be interested to see what others suggest.

Nice job!
