Signature/Watermark in Photoshop CS4

I am still quite a noob at photoshop, but I have started to look into some kind of branding to place on my pictures. I have looked at quite a lot of examples, but I am not quite sure what the exact term is for what I want to achieve in PS CS4.

I kind of want to use something like becker uses on his photos:
laguna beach engagement photos - thebecker.com 949.707.0033

Can anyone help me along my way on how to achieve the banner he's using on his photos?

Two layers. Flood-fill the bottom layer with pure black, then double-click on the layer and change the opacity to 80%-90%. The top layer contains your copyright notice in white. Feel free to add whatever effects to the text that you like.
