What camera, and what version of Photoshop? If it's a newer camera and an older version of Photoshop, it may not be able to use a version of ACR that recognizes the RAW format. You may have to convert it to DNG with the free Adobe DNG converter (or upgrade the Photoshop version) before you can open it.

Default Dressing up Raw Files

Hello jbirdistheword, have you tried using the free beta ver. of dobe Lightroom 3. Download free as below:

Adobe Labs - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3

or try teh even newer Beta 4.

This may solve your RAW problems.

Cheers,

Gimp with UFRAW should solve the problem,

If you just want to view them, try Picasa (gosh, this is the third post today, in which I am recommending Picasa, may be Google should give me some thing back for advertising).

Cheers and Have fun

Before trying all sorts of other programs it might be a good idea to visit the Adobe site and check if there's an update for the digital camera RAW file support that supports your camera. Lightroom and Photoshop use the same RAW support.

This happened to me last night. I went to Adobe and downloaded the newest version of Camera Raw (5.6 updater) and now it works fine.

RAW is not a standard. Worse yet, there is no Canon RAW or Nikon RAW, practically every new camera model has a different RAW format. Software people like Adobe have to write their conversions for each type. That's why buying a new model camera can mean that its RAW files aren't supported in your program yet and you should check for updates.
